Jack Wilkins "Windows"

OK, here’s your prescribed dose of jazz from the Dr., may its medicinal qualities help enhance your weekend activities. This is Jack Wilkins very scarce 1973 LP on Mainstream. The album is a real gem and probably one of the finest moments on the Mainstream label. Wilkins and his trio work though 6 numbers of pure, jazzy bliss. You can tell these cats must know each other like brothers, because the interplay between their instruments is seamlessly harmonious.

Enjoy, and don’t forget to show some love and leave a little something in the comments section yo.
Peace…………..DJF

I lucked upon this vinyl last spring and it's terrific. This has a little more grit to it than Wilkins' recent work. The recording quality is excellent, and with tunes by Coltrane, Shorter and Corea, how can you go wrong? "Red Clay" rivals Hubbard's original version but is very different. Grab it while you can.

Thanks! I bought this LP when it was first released, 30+ years ago, and it's been almost that long since I've heard it. Great version of Chick Corea's 'Windows' on it, which I attempted to transcribe at the time (I play guitar) but recall not getting very far with that effort - too advanced for me then. I like Jack's older albums like this one best, as later on he became rather verbose - musically that is. Same with Pat Metheny, his first couple of albums were wonderful, then he started to play more notes and say less and lose much of his charm.

Hey, I've been looking for a digital copy of Howard Roberts out of print LP, 'Equinox Express Elevator' for ages. If anyone knows where I can get one, let me know. Cheers!

I have searched for a long time for this one. This was the first album I heard of Wilkins, was on a late night college radio station back in the 70's. I am so happy you posted this. Thank you!
BTW - I have a good copy of Freddy's Hot Fun in the Summertime. I recently burned it at only 128 I'm afraid, and am now having problems with my turntable but if you're interested I will share.

Hey Anon, glad you liked the Wilkins. I have another later album of his but "Windows" is my def favorite. If you would like to share the Freddy Robinson that would be great. It's an album I have been looking for many years and a chance to hear it at any bit rate would amazing. Let me know if you get a chance to upload it.

Peace

i agree...this is an underrated mainsteam album. good songs played well. luckily the LP is sometimes undervalued because of a relative lack of interest or respect (at least in my experiences).
