It's Friday night and about time to roll out another post. This one goes out to the newly created Magic Purple Sunshine blog that Ish has recently assembled. I thought I would contribute one of my all time faves from the MPS catalogue. This very rare Monty Alexander LP took me forever to track down and finally found it’s way into my hands via E-bay a couple of years back. I have to say it was one of those rare instances where the LP actually lives up to its hype. Monty lays down some wicked chilled out grooves on the Rhodes that pretty much blow away every other LP I’ve ever heard from him. There are a few Calypso cuts on here that aren’t really my cup of tea but the rest of the album is pure butter! Apparently, Monty traveled to his homeland of Jamaica to record this and was backed up by Jamaican studio musicians who supply the perfect compliment to his killer keyboard work . Sparrow Martin’s drums are rock solid and Ernest Ranglin’s guitar work is absolutely stellar. It’s really the perfect jazz album to sit back and enjoy on warm summer day. Give it a shot!!

Thankyou, it's right up there with your usual fine standard Dr Fever!
I had a little bit of "Let's Stay Together" from a DJ Mitsu mix, great to hear the whole thing here. Reminds me a little of "The Baron" album that Quincy posted ..
Thank you Johnny!!!
Wow thanks I lot. Appreciate it. WIll add a link at MPS-Love. Youre the first Monty Alexander album to show up there.
great addition Dr! Monty is one of the meanest, swinginest pianists in jazz, I've got a lot of his MPS stuff, just watch my space...
thank you dear Dr.
I will def check it out, pity I have little time this weekend :-)
(but it's all good)
peace, E-mile

Thank you!!!!
hey Doc -
I liked this one a lot, so I downloaded another five Monty albums from Soulseek. But I didn't like them, not my thing! Just this one! (sobs)
Anyway, I've now uploaded all here. So go for it monty fans :)
My sentiments exactly. I love this album sooo much but it's really the only Monty album that does it for me. Every other LP I've heard from him has been a let down. I'm not saying that they're bad but really not my cup of tea. Must of been something about the magic of Jamaica on this session. Thanks for the upload, I'm sure there are true MA fans out there that will be stoked.
thanks a million-it should groove right!
awwwww shit! I've been lookin' for this one for-eva! The Beatnuts milked this one for several tracks...
thanks for this and all your other well-chosen treats!
